Title of Project: Projection
I originally looked at the degrading of Victorian fan light
windows on Georgian buildings in and around Limerick city. My ceramic pieces
will explore their use of over exaggerated decorative elements. Remembering the
original inspiration from my sketchbook work, and the notion of the fanlight as
a primary decorative element, through clay experiments, I aim to transfer that
idea into pieces of work that represent the decorative factor rather than the
light, and then to transfer these ideals on to the wall, also incorporating the
breaking of the original crescent form into geometric forms. It
is my hope to recreate these designs using an artistic reminder of the lost
beauty of a once beautiful city.
